In which areas do you expect PostgreSQL to grow most and how does your company contribute to and benefit from that growth?

PostgreSQL is growing the most in three areas. First, distributed and global deployments where applications must serve users across regions while meeting data residency and low latency requirements. Second, new workloads such as AI, analytics, and time series, where PostgreSQL’s extensibility and vibrant extension ecosystem are driving adoption. Third, enterprise adoption at scale, as organizations replace proprietary databases with PostgreSQL for mission critical workloads.

At pgEdge, we enable distributed PostgreSQL. Our Spock extension and orchestration tools make it possible to run active-active, multi-region Postgres clusters with conflict resolution and flexible deployment on VMs, bare metal, containers, or Kubernetes. pgEdge is 100% open source (OSI PostgreSQL license) ensuring everything we deliver is transparent and free from vendor lock-in. This helps PostgreSQL grow into the global data platform enterprises need.

pgEdge helps them solve these problems by making Postgres work naturally for globally distributed applications, so they can take advantage of Postgres while meeting the demands of scale, availability, and compliance.

How does PostgreSQL help you bring value to your customers?

PostgreSQL provides a reliable, extensible, and standards-based database foundation. Because it is open source, proven at scale, and licensed under the OSI-approved PostgreSQL license, customers can adopt Postgres with confidence, knowing they are free from vendor lock-in and have full transparency into the technology they depend on.

At pgEdge, the on-ramp begins with pgEdge Enterprise Postgres, our fully supported enterprise distribution. It includes curated extensions and tools such as pgAdmin, pgBouncer, and pgBackRest, together with the patches, security updates, and backed by the 24x7 expert support enterprises need to run mission-critical workloads with confidence. From there, customers have a seamless upgrade path to pgEdge Distributed Postgres, where they can deploy multi-region, active-active clusters to meet the demands of latency, availability, and compliance for globally distributed applications. All of this is delivered while remaining 100% open source under the PostgreSQL license, ensuring customers benefit from both enterprise-grade support and the freedom of the PostgreSQL ecosystem.

What is your PostgreSQL centered product?

pgEdge Enterprise Postgres is a supported, enterprise-grade distribution of PostgreSQL that includes a curated set of extensions and tools required for mission-critical workloads. In addition to pgEdge innovations such as Spock for logical replication, Snowflake-style sequences, and LOLOR for large object replication, it also includes pgBouncer for connection pooling, pgBackRest for backup and recovery, pgAudit for compliance logging, and other essential extensions. Customers get full 24x7 support with security patches and enhancements, and it can be deployed on VMs, bare metal, or in containerized environments with Kubernetes support.

pgEdge Distributed Postgres delivers active-active, multi-region PostgreSQL clusters. It uses asynchronous bidirectional logical replication with configurable conflict resolution and conflict avoidance, strengthened with robust exception handling, to deliver low data latency, ultra-high availability, and data residency compliance for globally distributed applications. Distributed Postgres is available as a fully managed cloud service (pgEdge Cloud) or as self-hosted software that runs on VMs, containers, or under Kubernetes orchestration.

What makes your company a great place to work?

What makes pgEdge a great place to work is the pgEdge team, who are not only smart and highly motivated but also kind and thoughtful. We are a mission-driven and values-driven company, encapsulated in our "EPIC3" values of empathy, passion, integrity, curiosity, and customer-centeredness. In addition, we are a remote-first globally distributed company tapping into exceptional Postgres talent from around the world.

Which of your company's contributions to the PostgreSQL Project (code/community/conference/sponsorship) are you most proud of?

As pgEdge we've made our Spock extension for asynchronous logical replication available to the community, and we are contributing a number of core Postgres enhancements that support multi-master logical replication. However what we are most proud of are the contributions by the staff of the Postgres businesses we have founded and run over the past several decades, including EDB and OpenSCG (acquired by AWS).
